In Hindu Traditions, the relationship between the Guru and the Shishya has a powerful and central role. This relationship is illustrated by that exemplary dialog - the Krishna - Arjuna Samvada - that is illuminating, enlightening, and transformative. Every year on Guru Purnima, shishyas honor their guru, the sampradaya they belong to, and in fact, the entire lineage which traces all the way to Veda Vyasa. Bhagavan Veda Vyasa systematized the Vedas, Puranas, Mahabharata and gave us the Brahmasutras. In Kali Yuga, a time when Dharma is indeed struggling on its last legs, what can we know about the Guru-shishya parampara and how might we enrich ourselves, our families, and our communities?
