UNIQUENESS OF THE MA SAMSKRT PROGRAM
--------------------------------------------------------------------
[1] 100% ONLINE; live instruction and in class interaction with fellow students and renowned Samskrt teachers across Bharat. This also allows choice of 2 year versus 4 year modes of study, with accompanying flexibility of a complete Online degree program that requires NO TRAVEL or physical presence. The degree will be granted by Hindu University of America (HUA) upon successful completion of required credits; more than 2 dozen graduates globally have received this degree in the last 4 years and many more continue to pursue this fulfilling objective.
[2] NATURE of the curriculum is special for 2 main reasons, one it uses Samskrt as an INDIC medium of research into the outside world (as opposed to colonial paradigms of language translation with western lens); and two, it provides students with knowledge of the building blocks of shaastram which enable new texts in Samskrtam based on traditional rules and modern day context. This initiative finds expression in an optional, post degree program called Shaastra-Setu where many MA Samskrt alumni have participated.
[3] MEDIUM of instruction is fully Samskrt with negligible (if any) translation or use of English. Accessing the texts of a vast system such as Samskrt taught in its native medium, is a force multiplier in the experience of studying and applying the language at a research level. There are no such fully Samskrt medium degree programs available ONLINE in today's world, we either learn western paradigms of grammar translation, or have to physically be present in one of the traditional universities in Bharat through the course of study.
[4] COST & TIME - no Masters level degrees in USA, especially Samskrt, have such discounted fees of $150 per credit hour (amounting to $7200 total), with conveniently scheduled 90 minute (online) classes during evening hours in USA. Most graduate courses in the West cost $300 - $900 per credit hour (including in-person Samskrt degrees offered by few universities). Learning in online interactive mode, in an immersive Samskrt language environment, with flexibility of 4 year mode if necessary, all combine to make HUA MA Samskrt program a very fulfilling endeavor for Samskrt aspirants.
