Historians inevitably end up constructing narratives, based on their own predispositions and hypotheses. They distort history, by carefully selecting certain "facts" of history that confirm the story they want to tell, and avoiding other facts of history that challenge that story. In the end they present their story as the truth about what happened. All we can expect of honest historians is that they at least demonstrate a greater awareness of this problem.
After India's independence, the distortions in reconstructing the History of India took a specific turn which can be broadly called "Negationism". In this webinar, we will explore the nature of this turn, and the systematic and mostly willful i.e. "conscious and deliberate" denial of facts of history which remains active today. The Webinar will also introduce a new course being offered in the Spring Quarter 2021, that will explore this phenomenon in great detail.
