Speakers: Dr. Indu Viswanathan
The formal and systematic study of the phenomenon of Hinduphobia remains sparse or even non-existent. This is in no small measure due to the fact that the western academic consensus and master narrative is that Hinduism is irredeemably oppressive and backward - foundationally flawed. Therefore, the conclusion is that Hinduphobia cannot exist. Of course, many Hindus know this to be far from the truth. Hinduphobia in fact arises at this disjunction between academic and media narratives, and the community's lived experience and understanding.
In this Webinar, we will explore what it will take to identify and unpack Hinduphobia and effectively and cogently articulate analyses in formal and informal learning and community spaces. We will introduce a winter quarter intensive course that will begin to develop the capacity for such articulation.
